All you need to know to understand and compare rendering quotes

It is only fair, every customer wants to obtain high quality 3D rendering at the best price. And of course, quality has a cost. To understand how the furniture rendering quotes are determined, we will reveal the different stages of creation, the time required to design a 3D visual and the people involved in the realization of a quality furniture rendering. Finally, we will indicate you the price of our furniture lifestyle staging.

Time and 3d rendering cost per hour, the main factors determining rendering quotes

Staff time, the main component of rendering quotes

For any service provider, it is mainly the time load that determines the rate of its intervention. The same is true our CGI rendering company. Thus, furniture rendering quotes will be evaluated according to the time spent in creating the visual.

Here are the different steps required to achieve furniture visualization:

1. Examine customer’s request and submit furniture rendering quotes. The customer sends us one or more photos of the furniture he wants to stage. If he wishes, he can also send us inspiring images for the visualization atmosphere. From these data, we can submit rendering quotes with the price for furniture visualization.

2. 3d modeling of the furniture. For this, the 3D modeler needs one or two good quality pictures in order to digitally reproduce the furniture.

3. Apply textures. The challenge here is to reproduce the furniture’s texture accurately. If the customer doesn’t give us an HD picture of the texture, the 3D artist typically searches for it on the internet or buys it from specialized sites.

4. Create the furniture lifestyle rendering. Once the modeling is completed, the 3D model is into the hands of the designer in charge of creating the product lifestyle visualization. Based on the client’s brief, he creates the spaces (living room, bedroom, kitchen…) then deposits the model and adds decoration from a library of 3D objects according to the desired atmosphere.

5. Setting lights. Lighting is the crucial point for a photorealistic furniture lifestyle rendering. The light sources must be adjusted to make the visual as realistic as possible. Thus, if a window is placed on one side of the visual, this must be taken into account on all objects present in the CGI picture. For example, if a mirror is placed elsewhere, it should be assumed that the brightness of the window will be reflected by the mirror, which will itself become a source of light.

6. Choose the best camera angle. The purpose of a furniture 3D visualization is to highlight the product. For this purpose, our CGI designer looks for the optimal angle of view to put it in its best light. Generally, we choose a ¾ view that allows the spectator to see the furniture on a large part of its sides.

7. CGI rendering. This is not man-time (we will see it in the next chapter) but it is part of the steps of making furniture lifestyle visualization and it’s taken into account in rendering quotes.

8. Retouch the image. Once the computer has rendered the picture, the 3D artist uses graphical editors to improve the realism of the furniture visualization lifestyle, such as changing the contrast, applying effects to light sources or inserting characters.

All these steps have a strong impact on furniture rendering quotes. But 3D product image prices will also depend on whether the scenery is indoors or outdoors. Indeed, interior roomset will not take as long as outdoor 3D production. This is due to the increased complexity of external visualization:

  • light must seem natural, therefore very diffuse;
  • vegetation (lawn, plants, trees…) is used very often and requires special attention in order to preserve the realism of the visual;
  • image retouching time is often multiplied by 2 or 3…

All these factors result in at least one additional day of work for the creation of an outdoor furniture rendering.

Rendering time, the second part of rendering quotes

Rendering time is the time required for the computer to create the 3D visual and therefore has an impact on rendering quotes of a 3D furniture visualization.

This time is related to the complexity of the image. This is because the time required to calculate the 3D visualisation will not be the same if the scene is very tight or if the furniture is staged in a large room/wide-angle. The number of objects also influences the complexity of 3D rendering.

The same applies to the resolution. Rendering time will be much longer for an HD photo than a 3D visual of normal resolution.

For example, it only takes 30 minutes to render this kind of furniture visualisation:

And nearly 3 hours to achieve the 3D rendering of this one:

To reduce rendering time without compromising the quality of 3D furniture visualization, several options are available:

  • use fewer curved or reflective objects because they require more calculation time;
  • reduce the surface area of carpets, rugs or lawns: these small elements use more rendering time;
  • move vegetation in the background, so the level of detail is less important and requires less calculation time;
  • choose the most appropriate resolution.

How to reduce the 3D Rendering Estimates of a 3D visualization of furniture?

Time is money – both for us and for our customer. Moreover, our customers are always in a hurry: they need their 3D furniture visual quickly in order to use them on websites and get more sales.

Thus, to reduce the price of a 3D furniture visualization, we always recommend that our customers provide us with a brief with the most detailed information possible. For a classic furniture situation, the brief must include:

  • pictures of the furniture to be modelled,
  • one or more mood photos to serve as a model,
  • if necessary, a photo showing the texture in close-up.

For architect or interior designer projects, i. e. interior or exterior visualizations that should be as accurate as possible to reality, the necessary documentation for the realization of the 3D visual should be more important:

  • plans and images of the existing situation,
  • as many remarks, drawings or sketches as possible on the desired details,
  • if the decorator wishes very particular furniture, indicate their references,
  • specify the resolution of the desired image: if the 3D visualization to be viewed on a computer, a normal resolution will work, while an architectural perspective to be printed will require a very high resolution (300 DPI).

What is the cost of a 3D furniture rendering created by Le Studio 3D?

We are all looking for quality, but money is the key to success. 3D furniture visualization prices will therefore often be the decisive element that will tip the balance between different 3D furniture rendering company.

We will reveal our exclusive prices for 3D furniture visualization, without dwelling on architectural renderings which can only be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

First of all, you should know that on average, indoor 3D rendering companies offer prices ranging from 750€ to 1250€ and that the first prices of outdoor 3D furniture rendering easily exceed 1200€.

However, the original organization of Studio 3D can afford a much more advantageous pricing policy:

Furniture modeling

Rendering quotes depend on the complexity of the furniture to be modelled:

  • simple (table, chair…) : 50€
  • classic (armchair, sofa…) : 75€
  • complex (mattresses, rattan…) : 150€

Indoor furniture rendering

To the price of the furniture modeling, you have to add the cost of the staging: +200€

Outdoor furniture rendering

To the price of the furniture modeling, you have to add the cost of the outdoor staging: +300€

Visual variations

Rendering quotes vary according to demand:

  • additional view angle: 30€
  • variation in color or texture: 40€
